Look at the Book

Mmmm, it’s crunchy.

Independent, local, close to the ground media publications are able to look in new directions, unlikely sources. Michael and Techcrunch get so many scoops because they listen and take the time to look. I’m delighted that when they looked, they liked. Hope you all enjoy it too!

Rumor is you were offered 75 million to not publish this. Seems a bit inflated… how much were you offered?

Kevin,

Are you saying the book isn’t worth $75m? how dare you!

The exact amount is confidential, but you can find hints in footnotes 23 and 52.

I laughed out loud when I read that. It’s amazing the quality of research available on the internet. For free even.

JS,

I\’d love to get you a paper copy. We\’re still weeks away from having it up on Amazon. The paper book business takes time.

You can preorder an autographed copy here. When I become the most famous author of the 21st century, an autographed first edition, rumor says, will be worth $75 million dollars.

Hi. I like the inspirational aspect of the book, but it hurts a bit to hear that your idea of a genius engineer is always a “he” (pg 20 - 22). I know it’s the general pronoun, but it still stings a bit. Have you considered encouraging your daughters to become engineers?

Thanks much,
Leah C.

Leah,

Thanks for writing!
My daughter wants to be a scientist.
She says, if my eyes get bad like yours can i still be a scientist?
(oh oh, you got me started on my daughter! got an hour?)

I’ve added:
“By the way, genius engineers are rare. Obviously, don’t limit your talent pool with sexism, racism, nationalism, or doesn’t-match-my-expectationalism. At Facebook, all early engineers were white men in their early 20s, so I use “he”. My daughter wants to be a scientist (or an an artist, today), and Ruchi is one example of an exceptional female engineer.”

Email smile@fbbook.com for a free copy with that in there.
